Call me old-fashioned, but I believe families are the foundation of society, and happy individuals make happy family members. I’m absolutely passionate about helping people uncover the source of their wellbeing.
Like most people, my life's journey has been a wonderful roller-coaster of things I never expected. For example, as a foreign-exchange student in Minnesota for 12 months in 1980-81, I had such an incredible life-changing experience living with a family and attending the local high school. It was quite the contrast to my all-girls Catholic high school days in Australia!
Then in the '90s, I lived as an expatriate wife in Connecticut for four years. While my husband was working as a chemical engineer, I trained with two highly acclaimed oil painting artists as well as achieving certification as a Yoga Instructor in Massachusetts. We lived only two hours drive from New York City which meant coming to know the place more like a local than a tourist... such an outrageously fun and educational privilege!
Other highlights include being a volunteer teacher of Primary School Ethics for four years and a multi-role volunteer at BayFM (our local award-winning community radio station) for 10 years which was a blast. I've also loved being an "Auntie" (similar to Big Brother - Big Sister) to a beautiful young girl from the age of four... incredibly, she's now 21!
And also like everyone, I've had my fair share of challenges. During my 20's I experienced a hideous few years of debilitating endometriosis (baby-factory malfunction) and as a result, the breakdown of our marriage. Infertility and divorce were not part of my life's plan! But I had fabulous support... which is why I'm here... because I know how helpful counselling and coaching can be. And, my clients benefit from the lessons learned during these unexpected implosions...
When I returned to Australia from the USA, I started volunteering on the phones at Lifeline. Over the next 16 years I trained and supervised other volunteers, and worked in a paid role at Lifeline in Lismore for three years (as their Mentor and Support Officer). I've never experienced a more supportive and positive workplace.
Then in 2011, the Australian journalist, Clive James, presented a TV documentary about mid-life crises. The message was, do something you're passionate about, that you think is important and that you're good at. It was a light-bulb moment for me ~ I needed to become a professional counsellor! So I promptly completed a Graduate Diploma in Counselling at the Australian College of Applied Psychology. I've been running my own counselling and coaching business since 2015.
About eight years ago, I stumbled upon something called the Inside-Out Understanding, the Three Principles or the Health Realisation Model. This simple yet profound "knowledge" forms the basis of my work, and my life! Sharing with my clients the principles behind mental wellbeing is what brings me the most bliss and satisfaction.
Overall, I'm a person who believes that life is an adventure, a game to be played, not won (except when playing Bananagrams!). I believe that each and every one of us is an absolute miracle ~ what are the chances that we're all here on earth, at the same time, in the middle of the universe?!
The bottom line is, my core passion and strength is supporting people through difficult times whilst at the same time, pointing them towards their own innate capacity for resilience.
I look forward to connecting with you. ♥️
