As a bit of background, for the past 30+ years I've been spending large amounts of my time teaching, researching and counselling. I've volunteered on the phones at Lifeline for 13 years (as well as trained and supervised other volunteers), worked in a paid role at Lifeline in Lismore for 3 years (Mentor and Support Officer) and I've been running my own counselling and coaching business since 2015.
My life's journey has been a wonderful roller-coaster of ups and downs: I was a foreign-exchange student in Minnesota for 12 months in 1980-81, such an incredible life-changing experience. In the '90s, I lived as an expatriate in Connecticut for 4 years during which time I trained with two highly acclaimed oil painting artists and achieved certification as a Yoga Instructor in Massachusetts. We lived only two hours drive from New York City which meant coming to know the place more like a local than a tourist... an outrageously fun and educational opportunity.
Like everyone, I've had my fair share of challenges. During my 20's I experienced a hideous few years of debilitating endometriosis (baby-factory malfunction) and as a result, the breakdown of my first marriage. Infertility and divorce were not part of my life's plan! But I had so much fabulous support... that's why I'm here... because I know how helpful counselling and coaching can be.
On a brighter note, being a volunteer teacher of Primary School Ethics for 4 years and a multi-role volunteer at BayFM (our local award-winning community radio station) for 10 years have each enriched my life beyond measure. I've also loved being an "Auntie" (similar to Big Brother - Big Sister) to a beautiful young girl from the age of 4... she's now 21!
Way back in 1985 I graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Secondary Education. Then in 2011, the Australian journalist, Clive James, presented a TV documentary about mid life crises. The message was, do something you're passionate about, that you think is important and that you're good at. It was a light-bulb moment for me ~ I needed to become a counsellor! So I promptly completed a Graduate Diploma in Counselling at the Australian College of Applied Psychology.
Since then, I've stumbled upon something called the Inside-Out Understanding or Health Realisation. This simple yet profound "knowledge" now forms the basis of my work, and my life!
My core passion and strength is supporting people through difficult times whilst at the same time, pointing them towards their own innate capacity for resilience. I truly believe that having the ability to maintain healthy relationships is one of the most essential ingredients to living a happy and successful life. The know-how is within you, you just need to look from the right place... ♥️
